John is a recognised authority on the structure, operation and governance of real estate funds. Since establishing John Forbes Consulting LLP in 2013, he has advised a number of fund managers and investors on open and closed-ended funds. In addition to his consulting work, he is non-executive chair of the Urban Splash Residential Fund and a non-executive director of the Patrizia Hanover fund. From 2014 to 2022 was independent chair of the Supervisory Board of the UBS Triton property fund.

Prior to setting up John Forbes Consulting LLP, John spent 26 years at PwC where he was a partner and was the firm’s international Subject Matter Expert for real estate funds.

John is a member of the Public Policy Committee of the Association of Real Estate Funds (AREF), the Indirect Investment Committee of the Investment Property Forum (IPF) and organises the UK real estate capital markets programme for the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He won the 2017 AREF award for “Outstanding Individual Contribution”.

John is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Tax Adviser and a Chartered Surveyor.
